Inside the

Hi! I’m Misty. I have been an educator for over 18 years. I have taught grades one through eight, without missing a single grade level in between. I started out teaching the junior high grades where I spent the longest part of my teaching career. Right now, I teach second grade, and I couldn’t be happier. I am working toward a master’s degree in reading, and I will be graduating this December.

I am a mother of three grown children. My youngest, Brooke, is a freshman at the University of Alabama studying criminology and psychology. My middle child, Nicholas, is about to graduate from dental hygiene school. He absolutely loves it, even though it’s tough, and his hours are long. My oldest, Zachary, just turned 30 and is in the Navy. I am proud of all my children.

My fur children are my heart and soul. They won’t be leaving me for the college life or career. Meet Jax, Magnolia (Maggie) Sue, and Willow Bell.

I am married to a wonderful man who retired from the Air Force about three years ago. He still works full-time for Veterans Affairs. He actually teaches as well, but his students are adults.

Writing a blog is something I have wanted to do for a while now. But it wasn’t until my college professor, Dr. Green, asked us in The Literacy Professional class to choose a scholarly activity that we would like to pursue in the future when I really started thinking about it. I thought a blog sounded more interesting and a lot more like me. This was only part of a class assignment. I didn’t have to actually create one. I just had to explain what I would do and why. It was something I only wanted to do and never thought I would actually do it. I decided this was my time to take the leap. I have so many things I want to say. And I have things I just need to say. And boy, am I a talker!

I hope you enjoy my stories and adventures from both inside and outside the classroom! Teachers know sometimes we have to take a step back from our lesson plans and just wing it.
